The first scaling method is basically about listing more products by checking the statistics you have.
If you’ve sold few products, check the stats in your account and check which ones are selling well.
Just 1-2 sales a month is fine. List them all.
We will learn which quote or which niches sold well.
If there is a quote that can be sold in many niches, we do “Horizontal Scaling” (that is, use the same quote for other niches that we haven’t created a product for yet).
For example, let’s look at these quotes:
“Keep Calm, I’m an Engineer.”
“Keep Calm, I’m a Nurse.”
“Keep Calm, I’m a Teacher.”
“Keep Calm, I’m a Truck Driver.”
You will notice that these quotes follow the same pattern:
“Keep Calm, I’m a [NICHE].”
If I find that I’ve made a few sales from this pattern, I will reuse this quote for other niches that I haven’t created a product for yet.
Can this quote be adapted for use in other niches, like hobbies or dog or cat breeds?
Like this?
“Keep Calm, I’m Cooking.”
“Keep Calm, I’m Hiking.”
“Keep Calm, I’m a Bulldog Mom.”
“Keep Calm, I’m an Abyssinian Mom.”
Etc.
This is what we call “Horizontal Scaling”.
We use the same quote for other niches.
It will help us get more traffic from many niches very quickly, and also help us to find new winning niches.
This scaling method is good when you’re just starting out, because you will get traffic quickly from many different niches.
But not every quote can be used for any old niche. You need to change the quote a bit to make the meaning fit with other niches.
The next one is “Vertical Scaling”.
This one’s is a bit different from the previous scaling method. For Horizontal Scaling, we find a good-selling quote and reuse it in other niches.
But for vertical scaling, we find new and specific quotes for a winning niche we’ve found.
When you see many sales from the same niche, you create more products with new quotes for that niche.
For example, let’s assume that you’ve made sales with these products over the past 30 days:
Best Engineer Ever (Coffee Mug).
Real Women Marry Engineers (Coffee Mug).
Totally Killin' It as a Badass Engineer (Shot Glass).
This is what an Amazing Engineer Looks Like! (Shot Glass).
I'm an Engineer. To save time, let's assume I'm never wrong (Travel Mug).
Note: These are general quotes you can use for other professions.
In this case, there are many sales from the Engineer niche, so we’ll do our vertical scaling by finding more quotes related to Engineers.
This time, they will be more specific, like these:

Notice: These quotes are specifically for Engineers.
We will simply find more specific quotes like these. Most people, in almost any niche, prefer quotes that are specifically made for them, so we need to create these kinds of products.
We will do deep keyword research for the winning niches.
In the previous scaling method, we had only 1 specific keyword for the niche, and other general quotes for the products.
Like this:
[NICHE KEYWORD] coffee mug ceramic 11oz funny …
But for vertical scaling, we find more specific keywords for a specific niche.
For example, for the Engineer niche, we have keywords related to Engineers such as Engineering, QA Engineer, Software Engineer, etc.

These are related keywords about Engineers I found using the MerchantWords tool.
For vertical scaling, the keywords we put in the keyword field of the product will look like this:
“Engineer QA Software Aerospace coffee mug ceramic 11oz funny …”
This way, we drive more traffic to the products using other related keywords. You’ll make more sales from the winning niche you find.
But when we do vertical scaling, it’s difficult to find 500 quotes related to a niche.
We can’t find 500 quotes related to Engineers, Teachers, Nurses, or other professionals.
So, when we do vertical scaling, one quote will be used to create many designs.
For example, I’ll let my VA find 50 quotes in one week.
The same 50 quotes will be used to create 50 designs every day. So, from Monday to Friday, there will be 250 designs using these 50 quotes.
From my own sale stats on Amazon, I find that people buy different designs for the same quote. It’s better when you give them options.
My VA will use 1 design to create three products: a coffee mug, a shot glass, and a travel mug. So the total number of products in the same niche will be 750.
This will help me increase my chances of having a few products ranking in some of the keywords I want.
To sum up, if you find a few quotes that are selling well, it’s time to do “Horizontal Scaling”, or use the same quote to create products in other niches.
For vertical scaling, we find even more specific quotes for the winning niches we found, and also do deep keyword research to add more relevant keywords to the product.
Okay, this section was all about Horizontal and Vertical scaling. They are what I always do nowadays. When I have to assign work to my VA, I’ll check my sales stats and select winning quotes or niches that my VA can add to more products.
The next scaling method is easier, and it takes me just a few hours a month to implement.
Let’s check it out.
