Day 1 - Test Day

Nov 17, 2020

This was the first day I started running ads in Q4.

I went to Etsy and browsed for interesting products in the family niche. From my statistics, the family niche is the biggest niche that I could scale easily in Q4.

Moms and Dads will purchase gifts for their children or parents. Daughters and Sons will also buy gifts for their parents.

So I browsed the products on Etsy and found two funny quotes I could use to create two products.

One (Product #1) was a quote suitable for any member of the family. Another one (Product #2) was a quote from mom to son.

I passed it to my team and asked them to create new designs. They sent me two new products bearing the funny messages I requested.

I created two test campaigns immediately. It was the middle of the day. I set the daily budget to $100. There were four ad sets with 4 interests in each campaign. I let them run for the rest of the day.

I usually create and run campaigns at the beginning of each day. But it was around 10 o’clock in the morning, so it’s was okay to run the campaign. It was Q4 too, and I wanted to see the results quickly.

At the end of the day, I got results like this:

These are the stats from these two products:

Product #1

Sales: 4
Revenue: $99.6
Spent: $26.15*
CPP: $6.54
Profit: $73.45

Product #2

Sales: 6
Revenue: $149.4
Spent: $97.47
CPP: $16.25
Profit: $51.93

Overall Performance

Sales: 10
Revenue: $249
Spent: $123.62
CPP: $12.36
Profit: $125.38

*The campaign for Product #1 was approved near the end of the day, so it spent only around 25% of its total budget.

The campaign for Product #1 spent just $26.15 and made 4 sales, while the campaign for Product #2 spent $97.47 and made 6 sales.

Here are the ad set stats from the Product #1 campaign:

There were two interests that made sales. Interest #2 made 3 sales from a $16.44 spend, and Interest #3 made 1 sale from a $2.21 spend.

Because I saw that this campaign has spent just $26.15 and the other two ad sets didn’t spend much, I duplicated this campaign and set the daily budget to $300.

Normally, I might do nothing and let this campaign run for one more day to see the results after it spent all of the budget.

But, since I wanted the results fast and saw the CPP was very low, I duplicated it with a high daily budget.

Here are the stats from the four ad sets for Product #2:

Only one interest made sales. Interest #1 made 5 sales from a $35.10 spend, while the other ad sets didn’t make any sales.

The performance of Product #2 wasn’t good. Only one ad set made sales, so I created a new Ad for this product.

I’d already thought about creating a new ad for this one. I planned to add some Emojis to it because I thought it would fit well with the product. So, when I learned that the ads’ performance wasn’t great, I created a new ad.

I didn’t create the new one in the same campaign, but duplicated the old campaign to the new one and created a new ad for the new campaign.

I tweaked something in the ad image and inserted some Emoji ad copy. I set the daily budget to $100.

I didn’t pause the campaign I created yesterday. I let it run together with the new campaign so I could know which ad performed the better next day.

Okay, that’s all for today. Let’s see the results tomorrow.
