Hello,

We all know Amazon is the biggest marketplace. But being the biggest also means it’s full of competition.

To stand out on Amazon, you often need to do things like turn FBM into FBA or run ads.

But this email isn’t about Amazon. I’ve talked about it a lot, and it can get boring 😅

Today, I want to talk to you about a different opportunity: selling print-on-demand products on Walmart.

According to SimilarWeb, Walmart is the second-largest marketplace, right after Amazon and eBay.

If you check the image, last month, Amazon had around 2 billion visitors, eBay had 561 million, and Walmart had 379 million.

Walmart’s traffic is pretty close to Etsy, which had 361 million visitors last month.

If you sell on Etsy, you know it’s easier than Amazon.

But Etsy charges a listing fee of $0.20 every three months. That’s fine if you sell personalized or high-margin products.

However, it can be tough for those using the PODtomatic model, especially if you upload a lot of products.

Imagine having 50,000 products. You’d be paying $10,000 every three months, which is a lot of money.

Also, Etsy has a habit of randomly shutting down shops that sell print-on-demand items. Trust me, I’ve had two accounts get shut down, and I haven’t sold anything there for years.

However, some of our dedicated PODtomatic members have been trying to sell their PODtomatic products on Walmart, and they’ve had some great success.

They added just a few thousand products manually and saw impressive sales!

Yep, just a few thousand… I was surprised too when I heard that.

When I looked into Walmart, I understood why there’s less competition.

If you search for “Engineer Coffee Mug,” you’ll find only 9 pages of results.

Walmart does have its own barriers, but they’re different from Etsy’s.

To sell on Walmart, you need to have an LLC, which discourages many potential sellers.

Sure, non-US people can create an LLC, but most aren’t comfortable starting a company in another country. Even Americans can be hesitant about it.

Plus, Walmart requires UPC codes for each product. You can apply for a UPC/GTIN exemption, just like on Amazon, but it takes some time.

If you can get your Walmart account, it’s definitely worth it because competition there is much lower than on Amazon or Etsy.

If it weren’t worth it, our PODtomatic members wouldn’t be uploading thousands of products manually, right? 😉

Many sellers I know have reached out, urging me to add Walmart to PODtomatic because they see that PODtomatic products can sell well there.

I was hesitant for a few reasons:

  • I’m Thai, and I’m not keen on registering another LLC. I already manage several companies in Estonia.
  • Hiring developers for this integration would cost thousands.
  • I’ve tried adding other marketplaces like Bonanza and Ecwid before, but they didn’t bring in many sales and required too much maintenance.

But after chatting with some PODtomatic members who have had success at Walmart and doing my own research, I’m confident that adding Walmart will help our members make more sales.

We just finished integrating it into PODtomatic.

A few members have already set up their Walmart accounts and connected them to PODtomatic. I’m excited to see how it helps them. That’s it for now!
